Our MissionThe Global Partnership for Emerging Leaders (GPEL) is dedicated to uniting LGBTQ emerging leaders from the global South and global North and creating a global network for human rights activists. This network will serve as a means of uniting and amplifying the voices of emerging leaders on a range of issues related to LGBTQ human rights.Our VisionThe Global Partnership for Emerging Leaders' (GPEL) goal is to help human rights activists become better equipped to fight for equality, justice and fairness for LGBTQ individuals in their home communities. Ultimately, we hope that those who participate in our conference will be able to take their knowledge back home and use it to fight violence against LGBTQ people, end communal stigma against LGBTQ individuals, and in many cases pressure law makers to enact laws that protect and promote the human rights of LGBTQ individuals. This can come in a number of ways. Whether it is ending work place discrimination, ending bans of same-sex marriage, decriminalizing homosexuality, or creating communities that are safe for trans people, this work is part of a worldwide effort, supported by GPEL, to eradicate homophobia and transphobia and the violence that goes with it. The individuals who participate in GPELs retreat will walk away better equipped to lead and ultimately able to create a safer worldwide community for LGBTQ individuals.GPEL is unique in that we are about investing in the next generation of LGBTQ human rights leaders from around the world. We are dedicated to uniting these leaders in a shared experience of simultaneous learning and teaching. Our vision is to build off each conference and keep a strong connection among participants. This network will serve as a resource, support system, and place where LGBTQ human rights activists can work together to eradicate transphobia, homophobia and all discrimination against sexual minorities worldwide.
