- The Stockton Heat are the official American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Calgary Flames. On January 29, 2015, Flames General Manager Brad Treliving announced that the Flames would move their AHL affiliate from New York and place it in Stockton, California as one of the five announced teams to begin play as part of the Pacific Division in the AHL during the 2015-16 season. Meanwhile the ECHL franchise that had been in Stockton since 2005, the Stockton Thunder, would move to Glens Falls, NY.The AHL is the Triple-A tier of minor league hockey with over 88% of National Hockey League players plying their trade in the AHL before playing in the NHL. The Heat begin their inaugural season in 2015-16 with a 7-0 win in front of the home crowd!
