• Crazy RichardIn 1962, an orchestra teacher by the name of Richard Marcus sought to return to his hometown in Pennsylvania to open a new music school for nursery age children. Upon his return he found that a couple of hometown charms had been lost to a culture of cost-cutting and convenience. the one he missed the most: all natural peanut butter - replaced by now familiar spreads with added salt, sugar, and fatty oils that still fill the aisles today. I couldnt get good peanut butter, so one day I just drove to the market, bought some peanuts, roasted them, put them though the blender, and made my own. In 1972, at the request of his friends and family, Richard slapped the Crazy Richards label on the first batch of 144 jars and peddled them to the local deli and health food store. By the mid 1980s it could found up and down the East CoastMeanwhile across the pacific ocean in Japan, a young american investment banker named Richard Craig Sonksen (or as we like to call him, Ricahrd II) was worried that his work life was beginning to take over his real life. He knew it was time to simplify. His coworkers called him crazy, but he quit his job at the bank, moved his family to Ohio, and took the reigns of a struggling Columbus gem, The Krema Products Company, the oldest peanut butter company in the country. Two years later, Richard Marcus of Crazy Richard's was ready to retire and looking for someone to continue his legacy. It was then that the two Richard's found each other. each with their own brand of natural, no sugar, no salt, no hydrogenated oil, 100% peanuts peanut butter. Rather than merge the two brands into one, Richard II thought it best to continue them both as sister brands. Now, more than 15 years later they both continue to thrive.
