• WHAT WE DO: JAX Cooking Studio offers hands-on cooking classes focused on healthy eating, nutrition, and cooking skills for adults and children. WHY WE DO IT: For the last few decades, Americans have been consuming larger portions of their dietary intake away from home. Typically, this food has higher levels of salt and saturated fat, and lower dietary fiber than food prepared at home. At the same time, with more adults in the workforce, fewer of us have learned the skill of cooking either at home or in school. Rising obesity rates and increasing levels of chronic illness are linked to these trends. VALUE TO YOU: Through better education about the nutritional impact of food on the body, home cooks will have the knowledge and skills to gain control of their diets and health. Participants will realize that cooking healthy meals is fun and easy, and the meals are delicious! By cooking meals at home, parents and children can enjoy the significant benefits of preparing and sharing family meals. WHO WILL TEACH: Local chefs, many with nutrition backgrounds, will provide hands-on cooking classes to home cooks. Growing up in a large Jacksonville family, she enjoyed learning to cook from her mother and has passed along this love to her four adult children. Now, Terri hopes to bring the value of family meals back to Northeast Florida homes and to improve the health outcomes of individuals, especially those with chronic illnesses, through cooking instruction.
