Get Full AccessDescription
- More than 90 years ago, a Catholic Charities agency was formed in the Diocese of Des Moines to formalize the work of the diocese in feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless and welcoming the stranger in our midst. That mission has taken different forms over the years. Today, Catholic Charities extends its services in a variety of areasprotecting women and children from domestic abuse; providing counseling assistance and supportive relationships to individuals and families struggling with a variety of issues; sheltering homeless families; providing outreach services to Spanish speaking immigrants; assisting families with supplemental food; and resettling refugees who make a new start leaving behind poverty or the horror of war-torn homes in their homeland to seek a new life in America. We are a non-profit, social service organization that serves the 23 counties of the Diocese of Des Moines in southwest Iowa. Last year, we touched the lives of 30,000 people!
