• Anesthesia, perioperative, and hospital-based acute care CME.STATEMENT OF NEEDThis activity is designed to educate clinicians about non-narcotic analgesia, including regional anesthesia, NSAIDs, GABAminergic drugs, alpha2 agonists, and others; about risks and benefits of transfusion, newly proposed algorithms, and recent research suggesting lower transfusion triggers in targets in different surgical populations; and meet the needs of many clinicians who do pediatric anesthesia infrequently. While some advocate regionalization and subspecialization, the reality is that many clinicians, particularly in rural areas, must care for these children.TARGET AUDIENCEAnesthesiologists, hospitalists, intensivists, pain management physicians; CRNAs.LEARNING OBJECTIVESUpon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:-Provide patients with multimodal analgesia. Reduce acute pain. Reduce chronic postop pain.-Treat anemia and/or hypovolemia. Diagnose and treat coagulopathies.-Manage pediatric patients so as to maintain optimal airway patency and respiration.-Avoid hypercarbia, hypexia, and pulmonary hypertension, especially in those with sleep apnea and/or heart disease.
