Get Full AccessDescription
- Project Mend-A-House (PMAH) is a 501(c)3 operating in Prince William County and the Cities of Manassas and Manassas Park. We provide FREE home repairs to low-income home-owners and free or reduced-price safety modifications to seniors, people with disabilities and veterans, all with the goal of helping them remain safe and independent in their homes. During it's 30 year history, Project Mend-A-House volunteers have completed over 300 ramps and over 10,000 safety repairs and modifications, donating close to 200,000 man-hours!PMAH is proud of our success in helping people to remain in their own homes as long as possible. Building a ramp can mean the difference between being home-bound and independent. Installing grab bars or hand rails helps people feel safe. Providing free home repairs can mean the difference between shelter and homelessness for many residents. PMAH programs restore dignity and quality of life while alleviating fears, both financial and physical. We solicit volunteer carpenters, plumbers, electricians, painters, gardeners and others, matching them with people in need of home repairs and safety modifications. The repairs we do lead to significant improvements in the quality of life for area residents. Each year over 100 volunteers give more than 3000 hours of their time on over 400 projects. Projects may include simple to moderate home repairs, safety modifications and building handicap accessible ramps.PMAH is a member of the Prince William Chamber of Commerce and has received the Best Practices Award Honorable Mention from the Commonwealth Council on Aging for it's fall prevention and home repair programs. Through funding from the Potomac Health Foundation, we offer four Fall Risk Assessments each year to educate seniors about fall risks and identify areas individuals may be at risk. We partner with many community health care professionals, including hospitals, optometrists, pharmacists, nurses, and physical and occupational therapists.
