• The New Haven Land Trust is a nonprofit organization dedicated to land conservation, environmental education and community vegetable gardening in New Haven. The Trust currently maintains six preserves, close to 80 acres, with a variety of habitats: tidal wetlands, coastal upland forest and grassland, traprock ridge, riparian forest and fresh water wetlands. In addition the Land Trust manages the Community Vegetable Garden Program which provides land, technical assistance and supplies to almost 50 community vegetable gardens. The New Haven Land Trust is a 501(c)3 and is supported by The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven, the City of New Haven and individual donors.The New Haven Land Trust achieves its mission by:Community Gardening: Assist neighborhoods in development and maintenance of approximately 50 gardens with materials, supplies, utilities, technical assistance and neighborhood outreach. Sponsor annual conferences.Land Conservation: Acquire, preserve and protect open space; conduct educational programs; distribute newsletters; nature walks; outreach to schools and neighborhoods.Environmental Education: Educate the public about the environment, nature, land and gardening.
