• Operating as an independent, nonprofit organization, the Institute for Field Research (IFR) offers academic excellence in field training and international education. By working with leading scholars from universities across the world, the IFR delivers a broad range of regional and temporal study abroad programs in both Archaeology and Environmental Studies (ES). All programs are academically rigorous with strong emphasis on teaching through basic research. IFR goal is to create a community of scholars in each program we operate. To ensure the highest academic standards, each field school is annually peer-reviewed by the IFR distinguished Academic Board members. IFR field schools are globally present with dozens of programs to choose from and with a diverse, global student body. Any student, regardless of his/her matriculating university, may attend an IFR field school -- as long as they are at least 18 years old. Students are no longer limited to the expertise of faculty members at their home campus, and faculty can recruit the best students from around the globe. All participating students are rewarded with 12 transferable quarter credit units (equivalent to 8 semester credit units) through the IFR university partner the University California Los Angeles (UCLA). IFR commitment to excellence goes far beyond the field school itself. IFR staff members are attentive and knowledgeable.
